Meet the Person #

His biography records refuge in Jing Province with his younger paternal uncle, farming, and Liu Bei's visits, during which he offered his assessment of the situation. During Cao Cao's southern campaign he went to Sun Quan and secured assistance. After Yi Province was settled he became Military Adviser General, and after Liu Bei's accession, Chancellor.

After Liu Bei's death, he managed Shu Han's military and political affairs, campaigned south, and launched repeated northern expeditions. In Jianxing 12 he advanced to Wuzhang Plains, confronted Sima Yi's army, and died of illness in camp. The novel's supernatural borrowing of the east wind is not a military technique in his biography.
