Meet the Person #

Lu Su supplied Zhou Yu with grain and they became friends. After Zhou Yu recommended him to Sun Quan, he proposed a military and political strategy based in Jiangdong. He was not merely the novel's supporting character running errands for Zhuge Liang.

As Cao Cao moved south, Lu Su met Liu Bei at Dangyang, conveyed Sun Quan's intentions, and formed a friendship with Zhuge Liang, promoting cooperation. After Zhou Yu's death, he took over his troops and later stationed at Lukou.

In the Jing Province dispute, Lu Su confronted Guan Yu at Yiyang and held talks. Accusations during negotiations express each side's position, not a sole ruling on ownership of the land. After Lu Su died, his troops passed to Lü Meng.

Limits of the Evidence #

The main text and Pei Songzhi's annotations preserve differing accounts of the negotiations. “Going to the meeting with a single blade” should not be rewritten as Guan Yu being the only person carrying a blade.
