Meet the Person #
Zhuge Liang's biography records that Liu Biao favored his younger son Liu Cong, and Liu Qi sought Zhuge Liang's advice on his own position. Zhuge Liang answered with the example of Shensheng remaining at court and Chong'er living away; the story concerns avoiding a succession conflict.
After Huang Zu's death, Liu Qi became Administrator of Jiangxia. His office and location distinguished him from Liu Cong, who remained at Jing Province's center. Their shared father, Liu Biao, does not justify merging the brothers' political choices into one person's.
During Cao Cao's southern campaign, Zhuge Liang's mission to Sun Quan identified Liu Qi's Jiangxia troops as a force able to join Liu Bei against Cao Cao. This was a context of joint operations at that time, not continuous subordination to Sun Quan.
Approximate sequence, not a timeline drawn to scale.
Limits of the Evidence #
Liu Qi must not be confused with Liu Cong, who surrendered to Cao Cao. Courtesy name and sobriquet, and birth and death dates have not been verified in this batch and remain blank.
