Meet the Person #

After Sun Jian's death, Sun Ce joined Yuan Shu and obtained his father's former troops. This was a key starting point for his own military strength, not a claim that he thereafter controlled all Yuan Shu's armies.

Sun Ce crossed east to build his position in Jiangdong. Zhou Yu brought troops to meet him and helped attack Hengjiang, Dangli, and other places; Cheng Pu and Huang Gai also campaigned with him. The separate phases of Sun Jian, Sun Ce, and Sun Quan cannot be merged into one army in a single year.

Gravely wounded in an attack by Xu Gong's retainers, Sun Ce handed his seal and ribbon to Sun Quan and asked Zhang Zhao and others to assist his brother. After becoming emperor, Sun Quan posthumously honored him as King Huan of Changsha. This was posthumous recognition, not Sun Ce's own accession as emperor.
