Meet the Person #
Volume 7's main text identifies Chen Gong as Cao Cao's general, whom Cao Cao once ordered to lead troops stationed in Dong Commandery. He later persuaded Zhang Miao to welcome Lü Bu and jointly occupied Yan Province. Successive changes of allegiance do not create a second Chen Gong node.
When Cao Cao besieged Xiapi, Lü Bu wanted to surrender, but Chen Gong and others stopped him. Later, subordinate generals bound Chen Gong and surrendered with their troops; Lü Bu, Chen Gong, and Gao Shun were all killed. The main text also records Cao Cao supporting Chen Gong's mother and arranging his daughter's marriage. This was provision for his surviving family, not kinship between Cao Cao and Chen Gong.
